Howdy. I’m Mike. Here’s a picture of me smiling at something a childhood friend said during our annual fantasy football draft in Michigan. It’s ten of us, give or take schedules, year in, year out.

Visit Michigan in the summer or fall. It’s beautiful, and underrated.

The only other thing I do more consistently than my fantasy football draft is write. About me, and my life, and the world, and made up worlds, and movies, always movies. And ideas.

It’s all therapy, at the end of the day. I used to teach writing in graduate school. Composition and Creative Writing. I spent little time teaching grammar, and more time ensuring the writing was honest and vulnerable.

Life’s a bit like the Chutes and Ladders board game. We can’t control what ladders will be placed in front of us any more than we can the chutes that appear out of nowhere, plummeting us backwards. But we can control our focus on progress over perfection.
